Ankole Farm Experience

Ankole Kingdom is located in the South-Western region of Uganda bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The kingdom was ruled by a monarch known as the Mugabe or Omugabe. The people of Ankole are called Banyankore (singular: Munyankore) in Runyankole language, a Bantu language.
 The farm tour experience follows the natural pattern of the cattle from when it leaves the Kraal to return. Depending on the time of the day you visit, you will be able to experience, Milking, feeding/grazing, watering “okweshera” of the cattle and much more. At the traditional milk shed “Enju y’ebyanzi,” you will learn about the conventional way of processing and preserving milk.

The Long Horned Ankole cattle are a unique species of cattle that are mainly found in south western Uganda and not in any other part of Uganda or the world. Each Ankole homestead boasts of atleast not less than 10 heads of Long Horned Cattle. These are mainly reared for beef and Milk.  A community visit to one of the Ankole Homestead can provide a farm memorable experience.
