The Nile River flows from south to north through eastern Africa. It begins in the rivers that flow into Lake Victoria (located in modern-day Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya), and empties into the Mediterranean Sea more than 6,600 kilometers (4,100 miles) to the north, making it one of the longest river in the world. The Nile River was critical to the development of ancient Egypt. In addition to Egypt, the Nile runs through or along the border of 10 other African countries, namely, Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia, and South Sudan. Its three main tributaries are the White Nile, the Blue Nile, and the atbqra. Jinja is one of two birthplaces of the mighty River Nile, where the water spills out of Lake Victoria on its journey to the Mediterranean flowing fast from the get-go. It is estimated no more than 5% of water here will end up in Egypt. There’s a landmark commemorating the source of the world’s most famous river- the perfect place for a sunset beer.
Another big section of river Nile is through the protected area of the Murchison Fall National Park and Karuma falls which is inaccessible by boat or walking because of the huge rocks and falls. Inside the Murchison falls national park, there are great boat trips offered both by the park on Victoria Nile to the bottom of Murchison falls.

Spot Fishing
River Nile and Lake Victoria makes Jinja city one of the best places for sport fishing in Uganda. The most popular species to go out for is the large Nile perch and the tasty tilapia.
One of the great things about fishing along the Nile river in Jinja is that certain sections are reserved for sporting fishing hence allowing anglers to catch huge specimen. The ideal time to catch fish is in the morning and evening hours. Indiscriminate fishing is frowned upon as is using old-fashioned gear. One has to go for only mature fish.
Before going out to fish, anglers will be briefed about the river and safety measures before being given correct fishing gear. Anglers who do sport fishing in Jinja always complete with happy faces. Sunset Cruises being around 6 pm and ends around 7 pm giving you an hour on the River. The Nile is not all White-Water at Jinja; there are some serene spots that are perfect for a sunset cruise. That is especially true if you have a great Nile Sunset with all of its splendor.
Note: The Nile River is also a vital waterway for transport, especially at times when motor transport is not feasible—e.g., during the flood season. Improvements in air, rail, and highway facilities beginning in the 20th century, however, greatly reduced dependency on the waterway.
The availability of water from the Nile throughout the year, combined with the area’s high temperatures, makes possible intensive cultivation along its banks. Even in some of the regions in which the average rainfall is sufficientfor cultivation, marked annual variations in precipitation often make cultivation without irrigation risky.
